Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

Elizabeth Wein is a master storyteller, and she writes that skill into Queenie, a Scottish spy who has been captured by the Nazis in France during WWII. In between torture sessions carried out by the complicated team of Captain von Linden and his assistant Anna Engel, Queenie is made to write every day, to divulge enough secrets each time to be allowed to live for another day. Interwoven with her spy narrative is the story of meeting her best friend Maddie, the pilot who delivered her to France. Amazing historical detail, multiple points of view, and intricate plot twists make this an excellent read for winter break!
