Mallory lay in bed thinking about what her mother had just told her. It can't be true, she cried into her pillow - but why would her parents lie?

She knew she had seen the letter and read it correctly, but when she asked them if it was true they denied everything. Was it so bad that they wouldn't tell her the truth?
Well, there was only one way to find out, she thought. She sat up and grabbed her cell phone, and shakily dialed the number that was in the letter.
The voice that answered was not at all what she had expected.
